THE STORY OF THE CHALOK REEF DIVERS

Although we have always loved diving on Koh Tao, we haven’t always been a dive centre. We started off by building Woodlawn Villas Resort, which offers comfortable accommodation in an easily accessible yet tranquil setting. The property began as a plot of raw jungle, which we developed slowly and with respect for the local environment, ensuring that we retained large grassy areas with lots of trees and local plant life.

In those days, we would send guests looking for dive courses on Koh Tao to other reputable operators where we knew they would receive high standards of service and instruction. As our little resort developed and increased in popularity, we realised we had all the skills, knowledge, and experience we needed to run our own dive school on Koh Tao.

So, with an incredible resort team behind us (we’ve had the same staff for years), we decided to take the plunge – both metaphorically and literally – and offer in-house Koh Tao scuba diving experiences for our valued guests.

AND SO OUR DIVE SCHOOL ON KOH TAO WAS BORN

As a family-run enterprise, we felt passionate that our Koh Tao diving activities should be as fun, friendly, and welcoming as the resort itself. So, we started planning and making the necessary changes:

Our Facilities – Our large on-site swimming pool is perfect for shallow water training for try diving, open water, and scuba refresher programs. Plus, we have built a dedicated pergola alongside it for outdoor learning and skills briefings.

Our Team – Our team of instructors and divemasters has been hand-selected for their experience, passion, commitment, and dedication to providing safe, fun, and memorable guest experiences.

Our Values – We wanted to keep a family feel where the experience itself is just as important as the certification. So we decided on a 4-person maximum for all activities. For larger groups, we simply add another instructor onto your Koh Tao dive course.

The Extra Touches – Value is at the heart of our product offering, and we know that Koh Tao taxis are expensive. So we offer a free pick-up from the pier upon arrival if you’re staying with us and a free shuttle for all your Koh Tao scuba diving activities.

CHALOK REEF DIVERS FAQs

It’s important to us that our guests have all the essential information they need before arrival. You can contact our friendly team any time if you have questions about how our dive courses and fun diving trips work and for general information about Koh Tao diving. However, for ease and convenience, we’ve listed our most frequently asked questions here to give you a head start on your research.

There are no official swimming criteria for the try diving program. However, to get the most value and enjoyment from your Koh Tao scuba course, you should have basic swimming skills at a minimum. To enrol on the open water course, you need to be able to float unassisted for 10 minutes and swim 200 meters/snorkel 300 meters.

Yes, our dive school on Koh Tao is perfect for families thanks to its quiet location, large swimming pool, and expansive gardens. Children can try diving from as young as 8 and get a junior open water license from just 10 years old.

Because the diving conditions are so favourable, our dive school on Koh Tao is open 365 days a year. We have dry and wet seasons like any other scuba diving destination in Southeast Asia, which can affect the dive sites. However, you can typically expect the water temperature to be between 26-30°C (78-84°F) and visibility to be 10 metres+ (and sometimes a lot more!) all year round.

We’re happy to take requests if there’s a particular site you’d like to visit. However, dive site choices are typically made on the day based on course requirements, weather conditions, and the captain’s recommendations.

It is preferred, yes. You’re welcome to book on arrival. However, without a deposit in advance, we’re unable to guarantee availability or specific course schedules.

Yes, we accept debit and credit cards from all major providers. However, there are plenty of ATMs on the island within a short distance of the resort, should you wish to withdraw cash.
